THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS

★★★★☆

listened to with director's commentary with wes anderson. wes spends 70% of the commentary pointing out elaborate elements of set design and the other 30% sharing great stories of the ensemble cast. particularly interesting: the dalmatian mice were made with sharpie, they decided before filming to never use a steadycam so all moving shots are on a dolly track, the particular red jumpsuits were out of print and they had to track them down. probably the 2nd best wes anderson movie.

GIRLS ALONE/BOYS ALONE

both greatly inspired the documentary series. i love that the only way to watch this film is on youtube, it's the type of thing you find when you go down some internet rabbit hole. i found it down a rabbit hole on youth autonomy and unschooling. it feels like a moment in time that is very specific, before kids had internet, but very much modern. something peaceful about the bbc british production of it all. interesting the different ways that the boys and girls react to people being branded as outsiders or differnet.
